Where to Eat
There is a great range of cafes, restaurants, and desert places in Pondicherry. From a sophisticated dining experience at Le Dupleix to a great desert at Baker St. or a leisurely brunch at Le Club. Creole, French, and Italian cuisine are the ones that this city is quite famous for. If you have the taste for it, there is some great sea food to be had.
Start the day with fine meal. Rendezvous is my first choice for breakfast. Eggs and bacon. Le Promenade too is a good choice. If you are up for a South Indian spread try the Surguru restaurant.
Rendezvous, Satsanga, le Club, and Dupleix are some of my favourite choices when I'm out for a fine dining experience. All these places offer a variety of alcoholic beverages to go with your food. Wines are the way to go I suppose when you are in Pondicherry.
Paradise is a pizzeria in Auroville. This place makes great pizzas, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. They use an earthen oven and a real wood fire to bake the pizzas. I would definitely recommend that you have dinner at this place during your visit to Pondicherry if you like pizza. For those who are not able to make it quite so far, there's another fine pizza place in the heart of the city, called "Au Feu de Bois", which translates to "Fire of Wood". As the name suggests, this place too serves wood fired pizzas.
With a fine meal in the tummy, it's time to hit the desert trail. Three places that come to mind are Coffee.com, Baker Street, and le Dupleix. Coffee.com, as the name suggests is a cyber cafe. The place has some fantastic and exotic ice creams and cakes. Baker Street is a bakery that has some great deserts. Some of their fruit-based deserts are to-die-for. Le Dupleix makes a great "creme caramel".
